NYANGA: A man who turned violent and heavily assaulted his wife after she refused to be intimate with him in the presence of their six year-old child has been slapped with a three-month jail term.

Fungai Bhayi (31) from Manhare Village under Chief Chikomba appeared before Nyanga magistrate Mrs Gloria Takundwa facing domestic violence charges.

He pleaded guilty to contravening Section 3 (1) (a) of the Domestic Violence Act.

Mrs Takundwa, however, gave him an option to pay $200 fine.

Public prosecutor, Mr Kelvin Mufute, told the court that the crime was committed on August 21.

“On the day in question at around 5.30am, the accused person had a misunderstanding with the complainant while they were in the bedroom. The accused person was demanding to be intimate with his wife in the presence of their six-year-old child who was awake. The complainant refused, resulting in the assault,” said Mr Mufute.

Bhayi assaulted her with a bamboo stick on her right ribs and head butted her on the mouth resulting in her sustaining serious injuries.
