A Mutare bus driver who recently ran over a pedestrian along Mutare-Harare highway has been slapped with a two months jail sentence.
Temba Sorota of Natview Park pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared before local Magistrate Lazarus Murendo.
Prosecuting Brian Shamuyarira to the court that sometime in January this year at around 2040 hours, Sorota was driving a Yutong Bus registration number ADC 2648 heading to Harare from Mutare.
On approaching the 240 km peg the driver hit an unknown pedestrian with his front part of the bus.
The victim died on spot after sustaining head injuries.
Magistrate Murendo said Sorota was speeding and acted negligently by failing to stop or react reasonably on the scene.
He was however slapped with two months in jail or an option of paying $ 300.
